Saddle stool & saddle chair — sit upright, work freely

A saddle stool puts you in the same posture as a rider in the saddle: the pelvis tilts slightly forward and the spine straightens by itself. If you spend long hours at the treatment chair, the workbench or a height-adjustable desk, this relieves your back and shoulders — without constantly reminding yourself to “sit up straight”.

Why a saddle seat relieves your back

On a flat seat the pelvis slides backwards and the lower back rounds. The saddle shape angles the thighs downwards, opening the angle between torso and legs to around 135 degrees — the pelvis stays upright and the spine keeps its natural S-shape. At the same time you sit closer to your work: a saddle chair lets you roll right up to the treatment couch or workpiece because your knees find room at the sides. If the classic saddle shape feels too sporty, the butterfly seat offers a split, more softly padded alternative with a similar effect.

What to look for before buying

Seat height comes first: the gas lift has to cover your working range — medium heights are fine for sitting at a table, work at the couch may call for more. Check the castors too: soft treads protect tiles, parquet and laminate, hard castors belong on carpet. A steel base and a load capacity of up to 160 kg make sure the stool will not wobble even after years of use. Finally the upholstery: synthetic leather can be wiped down and disinfected — a must in clinics and studios, and pleasantly low-maintenance at home.

Saddle stool with or without backrest?

Without a backrest the stool remains a purely active seat: you constantly shift your posture in small ways and your core muscles join in. For dynamic work with a lot of turning and rolling it is the first choice. A saddle stool with backrest, on the other hand, supports the lower back during breaks and adds security whenever you want to lean back — for instance as a saddle chair in the office or at reception. STABOOS offers both designs, and the backrest adjusts in height to suit you.
